Wow, what a fantastic summer we have had this year. I for one have been trying to spend as much time as I can with my Children doing as many outdoor activities as possible.

But now autumn is creeping in. The early mornings are much darker and that glorious evening sun doesn’t last as long as it did. Believe it or not the change from summer to autumn can play havoc on your skin, so I thought I’d share some of my favourite autumn skin care tips with you.

There are so many factors that effect skin health and seasonal changes are one of those that shouldn’t be ignored. Of course, most of us are familiar with the usual factors that can contribute to your skin looking tired such as stress, dehydration, diet and harsh weather that cause all sorts of problems to our skin.

So without further ado here are my top autumn skin care tips.

Natural Lip Balms

Wrap Up Warm

This one may seem blinding obvious but keeping as much of your body wrapped up away from the autumnal elements can be a key factor in keeping your skin in great condition. Hats and scarf’s are a great way to keep you facial skin wrapped up and protected and gloves will protect your hands from drying and cracking.

Lip Care

Taking care of your lips is very important to avoid getting chaps on your lips. Chapped lips are not pleasant and can appear for any number of reasons. Keeping your lips lovely and soft may seem like an ongoing battle but it’s certainly worth it.

Chapped lips can occur for many reasons however, they may appear due to something called a “thyroid hormone imbalance” or in simpler terms a vitamin B deficiency. It might sound a bit terrifying but is easily cured by sticking to a long-term healthy, natural diet. Keep a lip balm in your hand bag and apply regularly if your lips are dry or chapped.

Change Your Skin Care routine

Your daily skin care routine should change slightly for the autumn. Using the same light natural beauty products you used in the summer may not be suitable for the rapid change in temperatures. I would recommend using a good, rich and nourishing moisturiser packed full of natural goodness to help keep your skin looking wonderful. This will give your skin the natural goodness your skin needs, preventing it from drying out and becoming flaky.

Take Care From Within

In addition to adjusting your skin care routine for the winter months it also helps to take care of your body from the inside.  Keeping yourself hydrated by drinking water is a great way to keep your skin looking great. Staying hydrated is important when it’s cold and the cold damp air will remove moisture from the skin easily. What you eat in also an important factor, cooking with coconut oil instead of regular olive oil will reduce the amount of saturated fat into your body, which will keep those nasty spots at bay.

Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed Oil has a number of fantastic benefits for the skin and the vast majority of people are completely unaware or have never heard of Flaxseed Oil. Packed full of rich essential fatty acids or EFA’s that can help to reduce acne found on the body. As the cold weather sets in we wear more and more clothes which makes it difficult for our skin to breath, if your skin struggles to breath spots can appear. Taking flaxseed oil daily can thin the ‘sebum’ that is responsible for clogging your pores and reduce spots appearing on your body.

No one wants the cold, dark, wet weather to return however; with a little adjustment to your daily routine you can still have radiant skin whatever Mother Nature throws at you.
